Football (1995 to 1998)
Damon Washington came to CSU from Chula Vista, Calif., in 1995 and immediately set a new pace for Rams running backs in the 1990s. He made an impact as a freshman during the 1995 season and was named CSU’s MVP in the 1995 Holiday Bowl, rushing for 101 yards and one touchdown. Washington kept pace as a leading rusher in the WAC and his performance during the 1997 season helped lead CSU to one of the greatest years in school history. He rushed for 1,195 yards en-route to the school’s third WAC championship in four years. Washington was named to the first-team All-WAC in 1997 and finished his career as a Ram with 3,616 yards rushing.Â
After his career at CSU, Washington played one season with the Chicago Bears and three more seasons with the New York Giants. He played in Superbowl XXXV with the Giants and retired from the NFL in 2002. While in the NFL, Washington learned how to create hand-made jewelry and turned his talents into an award-winning business designing jewelry. Washington is a successful businessman in Arizona and continues to design and produce his works of art.Â
