Harvey Achziger (pronounced oxiger) came from Eaton, Colorado in 1949 to play football for Colorado A&M and earn a degree in agriculture. Achziger loved football from grade school and used his large frame to menace opposing teams as a tackle for the Aggie-Rams. Moved to the line in his sophomore season of 1950 following the graduation of Fum McGraw, Achziger took to the position earning all-conference honors in 1951 and 1952. During the 1952 season, Achziger was named to the International News All-America team as a first-team tackle. Ox, as his teammates called him, was a leader on the field and became only the third football All-American in school history. He also competed on the track team while at Colorado A&M, helping the team to the 1952 and 1953 conference championships.
Achziger was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and played professionally in the Canadian Football League for the Hamilton Tiger Cats before a knee injury ended his career. Achziger moved to Sumter, South Carolina and is retired.Â
