CSU opens the season with a strong showing in Cheyenne
Colorado State cross country opened the 2026 season with a strong showing at the Wyoming Invite, as the men claimed the team title with 23 points while the women finished second with 48 points. The Rams put nine runners among the top 15 on the men's side, setting the tone for the start of the season.Â

The men's team dominated from the start, placing four runners in the top six. Senior Chris Henry led the way for the Rams, finishing second overall in 15:25.99. Fifth-year Ryan Schumacher followed closely behind in third at 15:32.86, while freshman Miles Halvorsen finished fourth in 15:32.94.

Sophomore Parker Westermann added a sixth-place finish in 15:38.80, while junior Davis Rydman rounded out the Rams' scoring five in eighth with a time of 15:44.88. Sophomore Benjamin Wolff and freshman Reid O'Brien also cracked the top 15, finishing ninth and 13th, respectively.Â

The Rams' five scorers finished within 18.89 seconds of one another, helping Colorado State claim the team title with 23 points. CSU finished 29 points ahead of Wyoming and 34 points ahead of Colorado.Â
"They're unrecognizable from where they were last year, even with being almost a lot of the same guys as last year," coach Kelly Voelz said. "They look like how they have in practice."

On the women's side, the Rams finished second with 48 points, led by junior Allison Pippert in ninth place at 18:46.12. Sophomore Kaylee Ellsworth and sophomore Adeline Barker followed in 11th and 12th, respectively.

Junior Shea Volkmer and fifth-year Caroline Mehlhorn rounded out the scoring five, placing 17th (19:16.52) and 20th (19:25.76).
Looking Ahead
ÂColorado State will return to competition on Sept. 19 at the Roadrunners Invitational in Denver.Â
