Men's Golf Places Fourth at The Nelson

Palo Alto, Calif. - The Colorado State men's golf team fired a final round score of 277 at the Nelson in Palo Alto, Calif. to move up three spots into fourth place. The team's score of 277 was the lowest they shot in the tournament. This marks the fifth straight tournament the team finished in the top five. Top honors went to Duke for the second year in a row. The Blue Devils finished with an 18 under par 834.
Individually Nolan Martin led the way for the Rams. The senior fired an amazing 65 on the final day to move into to third place. His three-round total was 203, 10 under par. Martin becomes only the second person in CSU history to record a single round score of 65, Martin Laird is the only other golfer to do so. The Rams next best finisher was Laird who finished the tournament tied for 15th at 210 after round of 68 today. John Hayes continued to play well for the Rams and tied for 31st after finishing the tournament at plus one, 214. Hayes recorded a final round total of 76. Kevin McAlpine and James Kurtenbach, rounded out the team's five-man field. The duo tied for 60th with three round totals of 221.
Individual honors went to Ryan Blaum of Duke and Brad Heaven of Toledo. The two tied for first place with a total score of 201, 12 under par.
The Nelson was the final tournament of the fall season for the Rams, the team will return to action in February. The team's first tournament will be the John Burns Intercollegiate beginning on February 18.
