Men?s Basketball Opens Exhibition Play Tonight

Fort Collins, Colo. - Colorado State University's men's basketball team opens the 2003-04 season with the first of two exhibition games Monday night.

Fourth-year coach Dale Layer's team faces EA Sports - a group of former college players - at 7 p.m. in Moby Arena.

EA Sports is led by former UCLA star Ed O'Bannon, who scored 15 points and had three rebounds in the team's 75-72 loss at BYU last Thursday night. Ricky Barnes had 19points and Matt Barnes 17 to lead the sacoring for EA Sports. Barnes also had 10 rebounds.

Colorado State is led by junior center Matt Nelson, who averaged 17 points per game last season and was the Mountain West Conference Tournament MVP. Nelson is also the conference's preseason MVP.

The Rams return three starters and eight total letterwinners from a team that won the MWC Tournament in 2003 and played Duke in the NCAA Tournament.

Following Monday night's game, the Rams play a second and final exhibition Nov. 17, playing host to Northern Colorado at 7 p.m., before opening the regular season against BYU-Hawaii Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Both games will be played in Moby Arena.
