Throwers and Steeplechasers Bring Home Titles

Traveling to compete in warm weather for the first time this season, the Colorado State track and field teams posted some great times/marks at the Sun Angel Classic on Saturday on the Arizona State campus.
In the men?s 3000 meter steeplechase, Mike Nicks and Raegan Robb took the top two spots, both regionally qualifying for the NCAA Championship. Nicks ran an 8:57.06 for a personal best time and Robb turned in a time of 9:02.74, which was also a personal best. In the women?s steeplechase, Meg Larson won after clocking in at 10:28.66.
Drew Loftin continued his dominant ways in the hammer throw, winning with a toss of 218-0, over 12-feet better than second place. Adam Trainor was also fifth in the hammer with a throw of 196-8. Brian Trainor won the discus, after his throw of 193-7 and freshman Nate Heyrman was sixth with a personal best throw of 166-9.
Jacob Benson placed third in the triple jump after clearing 47-3.75 and Christine Ahn was sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 11-6.25. Josh Horak was also second in the pole vault with a 16-6.75 clearing and Colleen Blair placed third in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:27.43. In the men?s 1500 meters, Paul Michel was fourth after crossing the finish line in 3:46.62, which is a regional qualifying time and Mary Ridder placed fifth in the 800 meters after clocking in at 2:08.30.
Most of the Colorado State team will be at home this weekend, hosting the Ram Open on Saturday. The rest of the squad will be in California for the Mt. SAC Relays.
