Three Track Stars Named to Academic All-District Teams

Verizon announced its 2003 Academic All-District VII University Division Women?s and Men?s Track & Field/Cross Country first and second teams earlier today.

Christine Ahn was named to the women?s first team. The junior pole vaulter from Santa Monica, CA is a psychology major with a 4.0 GPA. Her teammate, senior Meg Larson made the second team. Larson is a standout in the steeplechase and majored in soil and crop science. The Roncalli, SD native graduated with a 3.77 GPA.

Michael Nicks made the men?s second team. The sophomore from Colorado Springs has a 3.831 GPA in accounting. He is a specialist in the steeplechase.

The members of the district teams are selected from Division I schools in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa. They have to be either a starter or key reserve at their respected schools and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. The ten members selected to the first team will appear on the national ballots for the Verizon Academic All-America teams.

Ahn, Larson and Nicks will be in Lincoln, NE this weekend competing at the NCAA Regionals.
