Water Polo Defeats Utah 17-7

The Colorado State water polo team made its debut against Utah?s club team in a scrimmage at EPIC on Saturday, defeating Utah 17-7.

The team was led by freshman Laura Scruggs who scored eight goals on 14 attempts. Also playing well was Marisa Fernandez who contributed five goals. Junior Holly Stanfill stepped up big today as well. The net minder recorded 22 saves on 29 attempts.

The Rams played well in the first period and led 2-1 heading into the second before blowing it wide open. The team scored eight goals in the second on just 11 attempts and took a 9-4 lead into the half.

The second half was much of the same.

The Rams scored seven times in the second half to put the game away for good. Overall Colorado State shot just over 40 percent on the day.

The team will return to action on Jan. 29 when it opens the regular season in Ann Arbor, Mich. at the Michigan Invite. The tournament will last for two days and will be the first of seven regular season event for the Rams.
