CSU Men and Women Fare Well at Nebraska Adidas Classic

CSU men?s and women?s track teams competed well at the Nebraska Adidas Classic today, producing numerous NCAA qualifiers and season best times.

Both Mike Nicks and John Woods ran NCAA provisional qualifying times in their respective events. Nicks won the mile with a time of 4:04.69 while Woods won the 60 meter dash with a 6.69, which ranks him among the top ten in the nation so far this season. Magnus Lohse continued with his strong showing in the shot put, placing second place in the shot put (57-03) behind Carl Myerscough, the top ranked shot putter in the nation and three time national champion. Men?s throwing team finished 2-4-5-8 in the weight throw with James Cale (61-02), Nate Heyrman (60-03.75), Adam Trainor (58.08.75), and Jace Rivera (57-11.75) respectively. Brian Kelly finished second in the 800 with a time of 1:52.26 and Bill Michel was CSU?s top runner in the 3000 meter run with a sixth place finish in 8:13.97.

On the women?s side, Bekah Yetzer won the 1000 meter run in 2:58.31, followed closely by teammate Danielle Korb in second with a 2:58.46. Korb also finished second in the mile with a time of 4:56.01. The women finished 4-6 in the weight throw led by Haley Hunt (56-00), Melissa Harms (54-03.75), and Katie Hansen (54.01.75). Keela Niemeyer placed third in the shot put with a throw of 47-01.75. Freshmen Megan Fox and Janay DeLoach continued their strong performances with Fox finishing third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.34 and fifth in the 400 meter dash in 57.14. DeLoach placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18-08. Sophomore Nicole Feest placed sixth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:45.30.

Three athletes competed in the Iowa State Classic in Ames on Friday night. Junior Colleen Blair and seniors Austin Vigil and Dylan Olchin ran the 5000 meters. Blair finished sixth in the women?s race with a person best time of 17:10.35. Vigil and Olchin finished seventh (14:16.94) and twelfth (14:33.22) respectively in the men?s race.

The Ram?s will compete in the Air Force open on February 21 before heading to the Mountain West Conference championships the following weekend.
