April 27 - Martin Laird was today named Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Month with UNLV?s Ryan Moore. This marks the fourth time in Laird?s career he has been named Player of the Month.
Laird has been on a tear as of late, finishing in the top five in the last four events, and not finishing any lower than 16th all year.
In the month of April, Laird won the individual title at the Border Olympics and finished second in the Cougar Classic after a playoff with Hawaii?s Matthew Kodama.
Laird also holds the team?s lowest per round average at 69.93, this also ranks him third in the Mountain West. This spring Laird has shot below 70 in eight of 15 total rounds.
In addition to his accolades this year, Laird has permanently etched his name into the CSU record books in more than one category. Laird has 22 top ten finishes to date, which is a school record. He is also currently tied for the school record for top 10 finishes in a single season with eight as well as top 20 finishes with 10.
In the Cougar Classic Laird fired a third round score of 64. This is the second time Laird has recorded a 64 this year. Nolan Martin is the only other golfer in school history to shoot a 64.
Laird is the second CSU player this year to be named Player of the Month. Nolan Martin garnered the honor for the month of October/November.
The Rams begin play in the Mountain West Championship on April 29, in Sunriver, Ore.
