Men?s Golf Team Opens Play At NCAA West Regional

Sunriver, Ore. - The Colorado State men?s golf team shot a 297 in the first round of the 2004 NCAA West Regional in Sunriver, Ore.

Senior Martin Laird shot an even par 72, the best round of the day for the Rams. Laird set the course record earlier this year when he shot a 64 in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference Championship.

Both John Hayes and Kevin McAlpine fired rounds of 74 placing them in the middle of the 141 person field.

Nolan Martin and Nate Pettitt each tallied 77 after the completion of the first round.

Colorado State trails tournament leader UCLA by 14 strokes. However, the Rams are only four strokes from tenth place. If Colorado State finishes in the tenth place or better, the team will go to the NCAA Championship at Cascades Golf Course, The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
