Colorado State University basketball coach Dale Layer today announced the signing by Andrew Patterson to a national letter of intent.
Patterson is a six-foot, four-inch, 200-pound guard who formerly played at Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, Tex. He will enroll at Colorado State for the fall semester in 2004 and is immediately eligible to compete for the Rams.
?We are very excited to have an individual with Andrew?s many skills and talents joining our program,? Layer said. ?He is a tremendous competitor who has great court sense. Andrew also has mental and physical toughness that becomes very apparent when he is on the floor.
?Andrew is a player that we feel can have an immediate impact on our program. He is a strong leader, and is also an outstanding student.?
Patterson averaged 13 points, 4.3 rebounds and two assists per game last season while earning all-conference honors. He made 39 percent of his shots behind the three-point line, converting 62-of-161 treys. Patterson shot 75 percent from the free throw line.
He led Lon Morris to a 26-6 overall record and berth in the national junior college tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.
Layer also announced that swingman Shelton Johnson from Arlington, Tex., has been dismissed from the team for unspecified reasons. Johnson was a part-time starter the past two seasons.
Under guidelines mandated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act also known as the Buckley Amendment, CSU officials are not at liberty to provide further comment about his departure.
