2003-04 Tournament wrap-up
The Colorado State Rams men?s golf team ended their season with a 15th place finish in the West Regional Tournament in Sunriver, Ore. The top scorer on the Rams? squad was Martin Laird. He finished tied for 26th with a 4-over par (220).
NCAA Streak Still Alive...
The Colorado State men?s golf team has been selected to the NCAA West Regional for the ninth consecutive season. The streak is the longest by any men?s sport at Colorado State and ties the women?s volleyball team for the most consecutive NCAA appearances.
Coach of the Year...
Head Coach Jamie Bermel was named the 2004 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year. He has guided the team to unprecedented success this season. The Rams have won more team tournament titles (5) and more individual tournament titles (3) than any other season in school history.
All-Conference Honors...
Seniors Nolan Martin and Martin Laird were both named to the 2004 Mountain West All-Conference team. Martin finished in a tie for second place at the conference championship. It is his second time being named all-conference. Laird led the conference tournament after both the first and second rounds before finishing the tournament in fourth place. This is the third consecutive season that Laird has earned all-conference honors.
Five Team Wins...
Colorado State has won five team titles for the first time in school history. The Rams? previous record for team wins in a single season was two. Colorado State won two tournaments in both the 1996-97 and the 1990-91 seasons.
64 Strokes...
Laird shot a third round 64 at the Cougar Classic tying for the best single round in school history. Laird set the single round stroke record in the fall of 2003 at the Fresno ?Lexus? Classic in the second round. Earlier this spring, fellow senior Nolan Martin shot a 64 in the third round of the John Burns Intercollegiate.
Season Wrap-Up..
With all of two tournament wins the past couple of seasons the Colorado State Men?s Golf team was able to muscle out 5 wins this season. Led by seniors Martin Laird and Nolan Martin, the Colorado State Rams Men?s Golf team marched into the NCAA West Regional tournament. They finished 15th in the tournament with a combined team score of 901. Martin and Nolan are the two leading tournament winners in school history. These two men are in the top five spots on the All-time Tournament wins (individual) in school history. Martin Laird is the number one player in school history to have a 36/2529 (Rd./Strokes) with an average of 70.25. Not far behind Martin is Nolan Martin, who holds the number two spot, has a 39/2754 (Rd./Strokes) with an average of 70.61. Martin and Nolan hold 13 of the 21 spots on the individual single-round scores.
School Comes First...
Senior Martin Laird, who hails from Glasgow, Scotland, was named to the 2003-04 CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Men?s At-large Team this past week. Martin is a Business major who has posted a 3.538 GPA. Martin has made his presence felt both in the classroom and on the course this year.
