Rams Finish in Sixth at Lexus Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Colorado State finished the Lexus Classic at the San Joaquin Country Club in a tie for sixth place. The Rams tied with the University of Hawaii with a three-round 883 team total to achieve their best finish of the 2005-2006 season. Freshman Zen Brown and junior Derrick Whiting both tied for 14th place with a 218 three-round total. Brown had a first round one-under par 70 followed by two stroke rounds of 74.Whiting had a two-under par 69, the lowest stroke round for the Rams at the Lexus.
The University of Denver won the tournament with a team total of 858. The Pioneers won the tournament by seven strokes. The San Diego State Aztecs earned second place with an 865 three-round team total.
Charlie Soule won the individual title with a 210 three-round total. Soule had the lowest stroke round of a 66 that he carded in his final round at the Lexus. He was followed by Adam Hagen of the University of Nevada who had a three-round total of 211.
Nate Pettitt was the Ram with the third lowest total, and achieved this by a three-round total of 225. Pettitt had rounds of 73, 81, and a second round even par 70 to gain him a tie for 39th. Aaron Weston finished in a tie for 61st with a three-round total of 229. Kevin McAlpine finished right behind Weston in a tie for 66th place with a three-round 230. Herve Gevers had a three-round 238 total and finished in a tie for 86th.
The Rams will return to California to compete in their next tournament, the Barona Collegiate Cup. The tournament will be their fourth of the season and will take place from October 24th to October 25th at San Diego, Calif.
