The Colorado State Rams are returning to California to participate in the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State University. The event is held at the Barona Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 7,088-yardage course. The Rams are coming off their best finish of the 2005-06 season after earning sixth place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The Rams carded an 883 three-round total to accomplish this top-10 finish. The field at the Barona Cup includes four Mountain West teams, three Big 12 teams, three Western Athletic Conference teams, and eight other teams from around the nation for a field of eighteen. The Rams finished fourth at the last year's Barona Cup and BYU earned the 2004 team title. This year's tournament is set for a shotgun start on Monday at 7:30 am (PST) where 36 holes are to be played. The Rams competing are Kevin McAlpine, Zen Brown, Nate Pettitt, Aaron Weston and Derrick Whiting.

Dangerous Derrick...
Last year at the Barona Cup, Derrick Whiting had a five-under par 67 which helped him earn 7th individually and a three-round total of 207. Whiting has shot below par in every tournament so far this year. The Lexus classic was the second time this season he has carded two sub-par rounds in the same tournament. He leads the Ram with two top-20 finishes; one of which came at the Lexus Classic where he earned a tie for 14th with a three-round total of 218. His third round five-under par 67 at the Tucker Invitational is still the team's lowest stroke round of the year. Whiting has been very consisten t this year garnering totals of 217 once, and 218 twice. His 72.56 stroke average is the team's lowest, and puts him ninth in the Mountain West Conference.

Bold Brown...
Freshman Zen Brown has emerged as a strong competitor for the Rams. Brown has now had the highest place finish at the Wolfpack Invite, and tied for the highest place finish at the Lexus Classic. He earned this 14th place tie with teammate Derrick Whiting through a first round 70 and two final rounds of 74. Brown has continually improved his finish this year. At the Tucker Invite he tied for 95th, at the Wolfpack he tied for 25th, and at the Lexus he moved up eleven more spots for a 14th place tie.

Rams Round Up...
Like Brown, the Rams have also improved their finish in each tournament of the season. At the Tucker Intercollegiate they earned 16th, at the Wolfpack Invite they achieved a tie for ninth place, and at the Lexus Classic they gained their best finish this season, sixth place. Colorado State earned this top-10 team finish with a three-round 883 total led by a 289 first round.

Pettitt Potential...

Nate Pettitt is fourth on the team with a 74.78 stoke average, however, only .22 seperates him from the second-place average of Zen Brown, a 74.56.

McAlpine McAwesome...

Kevin McAlpine earned a ninth-place tie at the 2004 Barona Cup by carding a 208 three-round total. So far in his senior year he has a stroke average of 74.67 and a low round of 69 which he has accomplished twice.

Best Weston...

Last year at the Barona Cup, Aaron Weston carded a 208 total which earned him a ninth place tie with teammate Kevin McAlpine. This is one of two top-10 finishes Weston has earned during his Colorado State career, and his 208 is the lowest tournament total of his career. This year Weston has a low three-round total of 223.
