Head Coach Dale Layer
"I thought we played extremely hard. We had energy, we had passion. I was not happy with our execution. We made a lot of mistakes. We're a work in progress.
"Freddy Robinson had great energy. When Freddy plays with that kind of hustle, passion, he's a terrific basketball player. He's a little rusty, but you see flashes of the old Fred.
"Jason (Smith) had a great night.
"Ryan Brown stepped up and made some big shots. Ryan gives us a guy who stretches the defense.
"Coach Eberhart had them well-prepared. They played very hard. It was a good test for us. I think we learned some things.
"We had some spurts in some spots that were really good.
"We've got some depth. I think we have some guys who can step up.
"Defensively the second half was better. I like our team. We're doing a lot of new things."
Sophomore Jason Smith:
"My goals for the game were simple, just put my hands up high on "D" and good offensive boards."
"We (as a team) are still improving. We didn't take a step forward and we didn't take a step backward. It was a tricky game for us and we have a lot of things to learn."
"I think I can work on defense. Me being a big guy, I don't need to give the undersized guys buckets like I did."
"I just want to see our team win. I want to go out there and play hard as we prepare for the real season."
"We know what we need to improve on and we need to do it at practice."
Redshirt Freshman Ryan Brown
On starting the last two games: "It's been great, like a dream come true."
About the win over CSU Pueblo: "We really pulled it together in the second half. We started rebounding and moving the ball around more."
On preparing for Northern Colorado: "We are going to need to work hard at practice this week. That game is going to be a big one for us."
On the halftime adjustments: "He (Coach Layer) told us that we had to come out and rebound better in the second half and we had to get Jason more touches at the post."
