Aztecs Topple Rams, 30-10

Fort Collins, Colo. - Despite a 176-yard rushing day from Kyle Bell, Colorado State suffered a 30-10 loss to San Diego State on senior day at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.

The teams exchanged punts on the first four possessions of the game before the Aztecs got on the board with a 20-yard pass from Kevin O'Connell to Chaze Schilens with 4:46 to go in the opening period.

CSU kicker Jason Smith pulled the Rams within four points at the 14:11 mark of the second quarter but the visiting team scored a touchdown and a field goal before break to make the SDSU lead 20-3 at the half.

CSU's opening drive of the second half ended in a missed field goal into a stiff wind but the Rams would capitalize on their second drive going 80 yards on eight plays when Bell rushed 16 yards for the score making the tally 20-10 with 6:53 to go in the third quarter.

San Diego State added a field goal early in the fourth quarter to go up 23-10 and forced CSU into interceptions on the final three possessions to seal a 30-10 victory.

The Aztecs tallied 375 yards of total offense while the Rams ran up 352 including 187 on the ground.

CSU quarterback Justin Holland was 19-of-37 passing for 165 yards while senior wideout David Anderson prove to be Holland's favorite target hauling in eight passes for 88 yards on the day.

Aztec running back Lynell Hamilton rushed 21 times for 108 yards and a touchdown on the day while SDSU quarterback was 14-of-24 passing for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Courtney Jones and Miles Kochevar each recorded nine tackles to lead Colorado State. Jones added one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.

Colorado State completes regular-season play next Saturday at UNLV. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. MT. The game can be heard locally on the Colorado State Sport Network.
