Colorado State University men's basketball coach Dale Layer said today swingman Freddy Robinson will be sidelined indefinitely after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

Robinson is a 6-foot-5 junior from Tulsa, Okla. He has played in only two of the five games to date due to nagging soreness in the knee. He had grabbed three rebounds in the two games thus far.

Layer said all went well with the procedure, and he expects Robinson to return to the team as soon as possible.

"This is a tough break for Freddy, but we're happy the physicians were able to find out what was causing his discomfort and take care of it," Layer said. "I know that he will work hard to return as quickly as he can. We need him and know that he's going to be a major contributor to our team this season."

Robinson missed all of the 2004-05 after recovering from surgery to repair an achilles tendon injury suffered prior to the season. He averaged 8.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2003-04 and started 23 of the 27 games in which he played. Robinson played in only six games in 2002-03 due to a back injury and was awarded a year of medical hardship year of eligibility. As a freshman in 2001-02 he scored 3.3 points per game and averaged 1.7 rebounds per game.

Following last season, atheltic department administrators filed a petition and Robinson was awarded a sixth year of athletic eligibility, returning his status to a junior in 2005-06.
