Ram Men in Third After Two Rounds of Pioneer Classic

The Colorado State men shot a four-under par 572 in the first two rounds of the Pioneer Classic at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. on Tuesday to position themselves in third place heading into the final day of the tournament. The Rams are 23 strokes off Wichita State and just one stroke behind second-place Nebraska.
Kevin McAlpine led a balanced Ram attack with a one-under 143 including a second-round 70 on Tuesday. He is in a tie for 17th individually in the tournament, 12 strokes off the leader.
CSU?s Derrick Whiting and Aaron Weston each shot one-over 145s on the day while John Hayes and Praneeth Perera each carded a 146. Hayes had CSU?s best round of the day with a four-under 68 in Tuesday?s second round.
CSU?s Nate Pettitt, who competed as an individual, carded a 144 on the first day of the Classic.
Wichita State leads the tournament with a first-day total of 549 while Shocker golfer Judd Easterling leads the event individually with a 13-under 131.
Play concludes in the Pioneer Classic on Wednesday.
