Water Polo Drops Two at Davis Shootout

The Colorado State water polo team completed its regular season schedule Sunday with an 11-1 loss to UC Davis and an 8-5 setback to Sonoma State in the Davis Shootout in Davis, Calif.

In the first game of the day, the Rams were shut out 11-0 by No. 14 UC Davis before Annie Quinn scored CSU's only goal with 2:16 to play in the match to make the final tally 11-1. Aggie Casie Mota notched a match-high four goals while CSU's Holly Stanfill recorded six saves in the contest.

In the nightcap, CSU fell behind 4-1 before narrowing the Sonoma State lead to 4-2 at halftime with a Marisa Fernandez goal with 2:10 to go in the half.

Sonoma State then rattled off four unanswered goals before the Rams could hit for three of their own to make the final score 8-5.

In the game, Quinn registered two goals while Laura Scruggs, Brittany McGinley and Fernandez each had one. Stanfill posted seven saves in the contest for the Rams.

CSU moves to 6-14 on the season and will compete in the Western Water Polo Association Championships in Davis, Calif. beginning April 29.
