The Colorado State water polo team suffered a 9-5 setback to No. 13 Michigan before falling to No. 9 Indiana 11-4 Saturday in the Fluid Five Challenge hosted by the University of Indiana. Saturday?s matches mark the first of four-straight contests against nationally-ranked foes this weekend.

In the first match of the day, the Rams spotted the No. 13 Wolverines four first-quarter goals before junior Marisa Fernandez got CSU on the board with 4:59 to play in the period. Michigan then punched in two unanswered goals before Shari Worack narrowed the deficit to 6-2 just before the halftime break.

In the third period, Colorado State was outscored 3-1 but claimed the only two goals of the fourth quarter to finish the game on the short end of a 9-5 score.

Fernandez led the Rams with two goals in the contest while Leah Kelly, Worack and Emily McCullough each scored one.

In the nightcap, CSU fell behind No. 9 Indiana 5-0 before Laurien White and Annie Quinn teamed up to cut the Hoosier lead to 5-2 with 6:05 to play in the second. Indiana then scored three unanswered goals in the last two minutes of the half to take a 9-2 lead into the midway break.

The Hoosiers extended their lead to 11-2 by the end of the third period but CSU?s Britany McGinley and Marisa Fernandez added to goals in the fourth to close the day?s scoring out with IU on top 11-4.

Colorado State drops to 5-9 on the season after Saturday?s losses and will take on No. 10 San Jose State and No. 14 UC Davis on Sunday in Bloomington.
