Split Squad: The Colorado State track & field team will split into two squads this weekend, with 22 (freshman Kirsten Anthony, senior Jacob Benson, sophomore Matt Cianciullli, senior Crystal Clark, sophomore Janay DeLoach, sophomore Trey Eder, sophomore Megan Fox, sophomore Becky Hammitt, junior Katie Hansen, junior Amanda Huddleston, senior Brandon Kent, sophomore Ryan Kirkpatrick, sophomore Magnus Lohse, junior Jill McCormick, junior Paul Michel, senior Mike Nicks, junior Jace Rivera, senior Loree Smith, senior Katrice Thomas, senior Adam Trainor, junior Jaimee Troth, and sophomore Rob Watson) heading to the University of California to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, while the rest of the team will head to Boulder for the Colorado Invitational.

Making The Mark: Adam Trainor posted the second best throw in the nation in the hammer at the Tom Benich Classic on Saturday. Trainor threw 220-6 to win the event, record the third best throw in Colorado State history and the third best throw in Mountain West Conference history. Sophomore Katie Lloyd provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the heptathlon (not a NCAA regional event) with a winning total of 5043. She currently ranks seventh in the nation and first in the Midwest Region -- and her total ranks third in school history. Others who qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships over the weekend are Trey Eder in both the shot put and hammer, Mike Nicks in the 1500 meters, freshman Alex Godell in the discus, sophomore Rheannon Backes in the high jump, Janay DeLoach in the long jump, Amanda Huddleston in the triple jump and Katie Hansen in the discus.

In The Rankings: In the first Trackwire poll, released April 5, the Colorado State men rank 20th with 14 points. The polls are based on a hypothetical scoring of the NCAA Championship.

School Records: After two weeks of competition, the Rams have already broken two school records. Amanda Huddleston broke her own record in the triple jump, leaping 41-6 at the Tom Benich Classic to break her own record of 40-9.75 from last year. Also, Janay DeLoach has broken her own record in the long jump with her leap of 20-2.5 from the Rob Upton Invitational. She breaks her record of 20-1.75 from last year as well.

Big Al: Alex Godell, competing in his first meet for Colorado State after redshirting the indoor season, threw 171-7 in the discus to finish fourth overall and the top collegian in the Tom Benich Classic. Godell now ranks 32nd in the nation and ninth in the region and has the fifth best throw by a freshman in Division I this season. Two of the top five freshman in the nation are in the Mountain West Conference, as Leif Arrhenius from BYU also ranks among the nation?s leaders.

Changes In The Wind: According to the NCAA rule books, an allowable wind for regional qualifying is 4.0 meters per second, not the 2.0 previously mentioned. Therefore, Janay DeLoach?s long jump from the Rob Upton stands as her best jump this season at 20-2.5.

Cracking The Top 10: Several athletes moved into the top-10 all-time at Colorado State in their respective events over the weekend. Katie Lloyd now ranks seventh in the long jump after a leap of 19-0.5 and third in the heptathlon with her 5,043 point total. Freshman Emily Pearson moved into eighth on the heptathlon list with a total of 4,606. Jill McCormick now ranks ninth in the hammer with a throw of 174-6. Trey Eder ranks eighth in the shot put at 55-5.75 and Adam Trainor now ranks third in the hammer with his throw of 220-6.

League Leading: Seven different Rams have posted the best time/mark in the Mountain West Conference this season. Jacob Benson ranks first in the long jump, Adam Trainor has the best hammer throw, senior Michelle Carman leads the conference in the 5000 meters, Janay DeLoach has the best long jump while Amanda Huddleston has the best triple jump, Katie Hansen has the best discus throw and Katie Lloyd ranks first in the heptathlon.
