The United States Track Coaches Association announced the Mondo Outdoor District Athletes and Coaches of the Year for NCAA Division I and Colorado State senior Loree Smith was honored as the Mountain Women's Athlete of the Year.

The Athlete and Coach of the Year awards are sponsored by Mondo, USA, the world's largest supplier of track & field surfaces. Mondo is the official provider of all tracks and equipment for the Track and Field Competitions for the Athens Olympic Games.

Smith broke the NCAA hammer record earlier this season with a throw of 229-9, which also is the new Colorado State, Mountain West and American Collegiate record. She was named the Mountain West Outstanding Performance Award Winner after winning the hammer, discus and shot put at the Mountain West Championship with championship records in all three events. Her shot put of 54-9.5 was also a Colorado State record. Over the weekend, Smith won the hammer throw at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a throw of 217-8, winning the event by over five feet.

Smith, along with senior Adam Trainor, senior Mike Nicks and junior Jace Rivera have all automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in Sacramento June 8-11. The at-large berths will be announced later today by the NCAA.
