Head Coach Dale Layer has announced Colorado State's men's basketball schedule for the 2005-06 season. The Rams will host seven non-conference games including matchups with Colorado, Auburn and Pepperdine while traveling four times during their non-league slate including trips to Kansas State and the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
CSU will open the season with two exhibition contests against Regis and CSU-Pueblo before tipping off their 2005-06 regular season campaign on the road against Northern Colorado marking the team's first trip to Greeley since 1956. The Rams return to Moby Arena to square off against Colorado and North Dakota State before competing in the Colorado Classic on Nov. 26 against the University of Denver at the Pepsi Center.
Colorado State then hosts contests with Auburn and IUPUI before heading to Kansas State on Dec. 7. They will return home for one game against Pepperdine before shipping off to the Rainbow Classic Dec. 20-23 to face a tournament field consisting of Hawai'i, Iowa State, Loyola Marymount, Northwestern State, Oregon State, South Florida and Western Michigan. CSU rounds out its home non-league schedule in late December by hosting Colorado-Colorado Springs and Arkansas Tech.
The Rams' Mountain West slate features eight home games and eight away games including a Feb. 18 home game against UNLV that will be aired on ESPN+Plus and a Feb. 25 contest at Wyoming that is scheduled to be shown on ESPN2. More information related to CSU's institutional agreement with Fox Sports Network Rocky Mountain will be available soon.
"We are very excited about the schedule for the upcoming season," commented Layer. "It is very balanced and it will allow our team to grow and mature as the season progresses. We face teams who play with a variety of styles, which will better equip us for conference play.
"This schedule offers our fans to see us compete against great competition in Moby Arena and the local area. Playing Colorado, Auburn, and Pepperdine at home will be entertaining for our fans and challenging for our team. Having the opportunity to play two local rivals, Northern Colorado and Denver, in the area, is another chance for our fans to see us in action."
