Colorado State University men's basketball player Freddy Robinson has been awarded a sixth year of eligibility due to medical hardship, Rams' coach Dale Layer announced today.
Robinson is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound swingman from Tulsa, Okla., who missed the entire 2004-05 season after suffering an achilles tendon injury that required season prior to the season. Robinson played in only six games in 2002-03 and suffered a back injury, and was previously awarded a year of medical hardship eligibility as a result.
Robinson will enter the 2005-06 season as a junior, with two years of eligibility remaining.
CSU athletic department officials, under NCAA guidelines submitted an appeal on Robinson' behalf as a result of his season-ending injury at the conclusion of the 2004-05 season. Officials recently received word that the appeal had been approved, providing Robinson with two years of athletic eligibility.
"We are very excited that Freddy has been awarded the year of medical hardship," said Layer. "It means a great deal to Freddy to be able to continue his playing career. He had the misfortune of not being able to play for two seasons due to injury. He has been very dedicated and diligent in pursuing his education, and working to return physically to the level he has set for himself."
