Colorado State volleyball head coach Tom Hilbert picked up his 400th career victory with a three-game sweep over Florida A&M this evening, 30-20, 30-23, 30-26 to improve to 6-3 on the season and win his fourth consecutive match. The Rattlers fall to 2-4 with the loss.
Senior outside hitter Casey Bauer led the Rams with 12 kills, while senior outside hitter Tess Rogers added 10 and recorded her 1300th career kill, becoming just the ninth player in school history to do so. Junior libero Katherine Whitney led the match with 15 kills and three aces, while freshman setter Ashley Fornstrom tied her career-high with 10 digs and had 38 assists. Freshman middle blocker Mekana Barnes led the match with six blocks, including one solo, while senior middle blocker Dre Downs added five blocks.
"We played pretty well," said Hilbert. "I thought they were very competitive games and our blocking was good enough to disrupt the other team's rhythm. (Adriana) Kostadinova was all world last night (against Wyoming) and we held her negative and that's because of our blocking."
Maria Andonova led Florida A&M with 14 kills and a .242 hitting percentage, while Andreina Ruiz tallied 12 digs and Rosa Rojas added 11 in the loss. Giulianna Veloria had two blocks for the Rattlers.
"I wish they counted the lives I've touched," said Hilbert on his 400th win. "I think the wins kind of reflect that, but it has been a wonderful career and I hope I can continue it for a bit."
Colorado State begins Mountain West Conference action next weekend, playing at San Diego State on Thursday and UNLV on Saturday. The Rams then return home to host Wyoming on Friday, Sept. 30.
