Rams Finish Ninth at Wolfpack Invite

RENO, NEVADA- The Rams finished in a tie for ninth place out of a field of eighteen teams at the par-72, 6,937 yard Legends Course at Arrowcreek country club on Wednesday. The Rams ended the Wolfpack Invitational with a three-round total of 871, which earned them a tie for ninth place along with Wichita State University.
Freshman Zen Brown led the Rams with a 217 three-round total. He was guided by rounds of 71 and 70 to earn a tie for 25th place. Brown was the only Ram to shoot under par twice. Derrick Whiting finished a stroke over Brown with a total of 218. His rounds of 76, 72 and a final round two-under par 70 earned him a tie for 29th place. Seniors Kevin McAlpine and Nate Pettitt both tied for a 41st place with a 221 three-round total. McAlpine had the lowest stroke round for the Rams with a three-under par 69 that he carded in the second round. Pettitt had rounds of 72, 74 and 75.
Aaron Weston gained a tie for 52nd place with a 223 total. He had rounds of 73, 76 and 74. Herve Gevers, who competed as an individual in his first ever collegiate tournament, tied for 57th place. His one under par 71 in his first round, coupled with his last two rounds of 77 and 76 gave him a 224 three-round total.
The hosting Nevada Wolfpack took the tourney with a three-round total of 852. Their final round 281 coupled with their first rounds of 286 and 285 led them to the first place finish. Their closest competitor was New Mexico State University who finished second with a three-round 854 total.
Matt Bortis of Arkansas took home the individual title with a three-round ten-under par 206. He had rounds of 69 and 74 before his last round nine-under par 63.
The Rams have a fifteen day break until their next tournament, the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, commences on October 14th. The Rams finished 6th at the tournament last year. The tournament, which is hosted at the San Joaquin Country Club, ends on the 15th.
