Water Pik is proud to sponsor the Colorado State University Excellence in Education Award.
This program highlights excellence in the classroom by Colorado State University student-athletes and professors. The recipients are presented the Water Pik Excellence in Education award at each home football game by Athletic Director Mark Driscoll and a Water Pik representative.
September 24th
Professor - Alli Searle
Alli grew up in Denver and Fort Collins. Went to Fort Collins High School, then to CSU for undergrad where she majored in Speech Communication and minored in History and Political Science. She went straight through to receive her Masters degree in Speech Communication also from CSU in 2002. Alli has been teaching here for 5 years total, (2 during her Masters and 3 as a lecturer in the Speech Communication department). She teaches Public Speaking, Communication & Popular Culture, and Intercultural Communication.
Student-Athlete - Lindsay Thomas
Lindsay Thomas was born on September 5, 1983 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is the daughter of Mel and Carol Thomas and has a younger brother, Evan. Thomas is a senior and number 45 on the women's basketball team. She currently is ranked 4th in CSU's career records for Field Goal Percentage. She also plans to graduate with a degree in English and Spanish. While playing basketball and graduating with a double major she is still able to maintain an outstanding GPA of 3.988.
September 29th
Professor - Sara Rathburn
Sara is the Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences and has been teaching at Colorado State University since 2001. Sara received her Ph D from Colorado State University in 2001 in Earth Resources. Currently she teaches introductory geology, Historical and Analytical Geology and a freshmen seminar entitled "Geology of the Front Range of Colorado".
Student-Athlete - Taylor Felton
Taylor was Born June 5, 1984, daughter of Lyn and Norin Felton, and she has one younger brother. Taylor is majoring in Chemical Engineering. She attended Skyline High school where she was Utah swimmer of the year in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Taylor is an eight-time individual state champion and four-time all-state water polo team member.
October 8th
Professor - Garry Auld
Garry Auld is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. Garry is originally from Pennsylvania and came to Colorado in 1989. Each semester Garry sees many CSU student-athletes in his Survey of Human Nutrition class, he also teaches and conducts research in community nutrition. Additionally, he is also very active in promoting local, sustainable food choices through his projects and his involvement in Northern Colorado Food and Agriculture Policy Council. Congratulations Garry!
Student-Athlete - Tess Rogers
Tess, a senior originally from Merino, Colorado, is a history major that would like to be a teacher in a small town in Colorado. She has been a starting outside hitter for the Rams for four years and currently ranks eighth in school history with 1, 338 kills. She was the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2002, has been a Mountain West All-Conference selection the last two seasons and was named the 2005 Preseason Co-Player of the Year in the league. She ranks among the top 10 in the conference in kills per game and is second on the team with 3.67 kills per contest. She also ranks eighth in school history with 60 solo blocks and has reached double figures in kills the last nine matches.
October 22nd
Professor - Karen Gebhardt-Allen
This is Karen's third year as an instructor in the Department of Economics at Colorado State University. She teaches Microeconomics and Gender in the Economy. Karen grew up in Fort Collins as an admirer of the University and a fan of athletics. As an instructor with so much contact with student athletes, she knows how hard it is to play the sport, have high grades, stay in shape, and all of the other obligations a student has. Karen would like to recognize and admire all of our athletes, as some of the hardest working students on campus and it has been a pleasure to work with so many dedicated students.
Student-Athlete - Stuart Creason
One of three 7-footers on this year's team, Stuart Creason will return to the Ram basketball lineup this season for his third year with the program. A native of Coppell, Texas, Creason redshirted his first year with Colorado State and has earned 14 starts in 26 games since. He earned his first career double-double in a 17-point, 10-rebound performance at Auburn in 2004 and at the end of the 2004-05 season, Creason finished second in the MWC in freshman rebounding (behind teammate Jason Smith) and fourth in freshman scoring. Creason is ranked seventh in the CSU freshman record books with 20 blocked shots in his rookie campaign. Majoring in Information Systems, Creason holds a 3.193 GPA.
November 12th
Professor - Brian Dunbar
Brian is director of the Institute for the Built Environment and faculty member in Construction Management at Colorado State University. Professor Dunbar holds bachelors and masters degrees in architecture from the University of Michigan. In 2004, Brian was selected as a national faculty member by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Student-Athlete - Nate Heyrman
nate is a junior thrower on the track & field team. He has qualified for the NCAA Regionals as both a freshman and sophomore in the shot put and discus and in the hammer throw as a sophomore. He was named to the Mountain West All-Conference team in the hammer and is ranked in the top 10 in school history in the shot put, discus and hammer.
