Molly Nohr • Senior • G • Moraga, Calif. (Miramonte HS)
I expected Metro to come in here and play hard and play a full 40 minutes. They shot the ball great, shot 49 percent from the floor, they got all their shots and hit all their shots. We just didn't take care of the call, we had way to many turnovers.
Last season when we lost games we never got past the loses, we have to learn to get past a loss, and we just have to get better.
I think that we came in kind of over looking Metro State because it's an exhibition game, and tonight we learned we couldn't do that with anyone.
Sara Hunter • Junior • G • Fort Collins, Colo. (Rocky Mountain HS)
This was a team effort in the loss, every player is guilty of things that happened, and being young is not an excuse. We have good athletes on this team, we're just going to continue to get better.
This game shows you we have to play a complete game, we can't count on one aspect to carry of the game to carry us. We have to be more aggressive defensively.
This loss is good because it makes us step back, we have so many young players that this shows you that this type of game is going to happen. But it's going to be a great season.
Head Coach Jen Warden
Metro State is a very talented team, (head coach) Dave Murphy has done a great job of recruiting Division 1 players that have transferred, I think they probably had more Division 1 experience as we did out there with all their transfers.
This team is so mature for how young we are. We are the underdogs in every situation this season, and that's the way we are going to play. We now realize this is no longer the dress rehearsal.
The players need to understand that they're going to be coached as adults, I have too much respect for them to not do that. They're not going to get babied, and I think they understand that. There's no way they're going to take everything we teach them on to the floor, but we want them to run our system, and I think they're going to be ready.
At halftime we said were running our offense about seven miles per hour faster than our car can handle. We all agreed we were a little outside of our tempo and we need to slow it down a little.
We have to take better care of the ball. We had 21 turnovers tonight and that's too much for us. We had 8 in the (first game) and that's probably too little for us, we need to be some where in the middle for us to be consistent, probably around 14 or 15.
