Rams Split in Final Day of Slugfest

Santa Cruz, Calif. - The Colorado State water polo team recorded a split on the final day of the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest Sunday afternoon with a loss to No. 20 Santa Clara 10-6 and a win over Cal State Monterey Bay 9-6.
In the first game of the day, CSU fell to No. 20 Santa Clara by a 10-6 count. Annie Quinn paced the team tying her own school record with four goals while Laurien White added a two-goal performance. Senior Holly Stanfill posted eight saves in goal for the Rams as well.
In the nightcap, CSU claimed a 9-6 win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Lugo set a school record with 16 saves in the contest giving the Rams their third conference win of the season.
"The team played very well," said CSU assistant coach Michael Moody. "They played good as a team and played great defense. Our defensive play has set the tone for our team all year."
Colorado State (5-5, 3-2 WWPA) will next take on three teams in the Air Force Tournament next weekend in Colorado Springs.
