HONOLULU, Hawaii- Colorado State is currently tied for third place after one round of the John Burns Intercollegiate. The Rams carded their new season team low stroke round, 277 (-11), at the 6917-yard, par-72 Leilehua Golf Course. Currently three different Colorado State golfers are in the top 20.
Freshman Zen Brown and junior Derrick Whiting both carded a 67, which puts them in a tie for fourth place. Brown's 67 is his career low round. The 67 Whiting carded matches his career low. Whiting shot a 67 one other time this year: in the third round of the Tucker Intercollegiate Sept. 17. Senior Nate Pettitt is in a tie for 16th after carding a 69. His 69 is only one stroke away from his career low of 68 that he carded earlier this year in the second round of the Barona Collegiate Cup.
The Rams 277 is lower the 279 carded in the second round of the Barona Cup October 25 which was their previous team season low round. Colorado State is tied with Long Beach State University who is also at a 277 (-11).
Colorado State is currently leading their fellow Mountain West competitors. Brigham Young is closest to them in fifth place after shooting a 278 in the first round. New Mexico is tied for 6th; UNLV is in 11th; and Utah is in 18th.
Colorado State is four strokes away from Auburn University who is leading the nineteen-team field with a 273 (-15). Brett Lederer of Long Beach State is leading the 106 individuals competing after carding a 65.
The tournament continues with 18 holes on Thursday and concludes with 18 more on Friday.
