Ram Tennis defeats Abilene Christian, 4-3
The Colorado State women's tennis team defeated Abilene Christian, 4-3, improving to 3-4 on the season.
The Rams began the day by winning the doubles point, the third time in a row this season. No. 85 Emily Kirchem and partner Anne Andersen defeated Irene Squillaci and Meagan Brown in a quick 8-2 match at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3, Jessica Jones and Jasmin Singh beat Sarah Drummond and Elizabeth Korinek, 9-7.
Colorado State claimed the win early by winning at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. Kirchem defeated Squillaci at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1, while Andersen beat Holly Lindloff, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Lauren Strasburger scored the fourth point by beating Lana Pavlin, who is ranked No. 49 in the Division II rankings, in a 6-2, 6-2 match.
Walk-on freshman Sarah Seltsam made her collegiate debut, but lost to Sandra Vicic, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
"To beat a quality team is a really good effort for us," said Coach Jon Messick.
The Rams continue play in Colorado Springs on Sunday, when they face No. 61 Texas Tech.
