On the Next Tee...
The women's golf team heads to Las Vegas for the second time this season to compete in the UNLV Spring Invitational. The three-day tournament will be held at the Boulder City Golf Club, in Boulder City Nev. The team will tee off at 7:30 am all three days of the tourney.
The Team
Coach Angie Hopkins has decided to take only four players to the UNLV Spring Invitational, instead of the usual five. The CSU roster will consist of Chelsea Benton, Megan Chapman, Amber Ward and Stefanie Ferguson.
The Course
The newest course in southern Nevada, the 27-hole Boulder City Golf Club opened it's doors in January of 2003. The oasis themed course features palm trees, beach bunkers, lakes and waterfalls. The desert holes are bordered by the area's unique, playable sand. The team will play the front nine on the Desert Hawk 9, which allows golfers the chance to use all the clubs in their bags off the tees and in the fairways. The Rams will play the back nine on the Coyote Run 9, which offers a high degree of difficulty along with beautiful natural scenery.
Recap of Kitahara Fresno State Invitational
The Rams kicked off the spring season in Fresno, Calif. at the second annual Kitahara Fresno State Invitational. Colorado State went up against some of the best teams in the western region including UCLA (#2) and Long Beach State (#22). The team ended up in 13th place after two rounds of play.
CSU fought hard on the first day, with sophomore Megan Chapman leading the team after the first round with a three-over-par 75. Chelsea Benton, CSU's top golfer in the fall season, was not far behind, carding a 76 in the initial round.
The second round of the tournament brought a drop in the team standings for Colorado State when they moved from 10th place to 13th, but Chelsea Benton improved on her first round score by three-strokes, carding a one-over-par 73. That moved Benton 12 positions up on the leaderboard to leave her in a tie for 20th place. Megan Chapman finished the tournament ranked in 32nd place with a tournament total of 151. Amber Ward fired off a 158 tournament total and finished in a tie for 68th place. Stefanie Ferguson and Karen Wanersdorfer ended up in 82nd and 92nd place, respectively.
