Colorado State Wraps Up Mountain West Championship

The Rams finish sixth as a team with Kaneshiro finishing third individually

Palm Springs, Calif — The Colorado State women's golf team wrapped up round one of the Mountain West Championship Tournament Tuesday, April 21 sitting tied with first as a team carding a 291 team score while Kara Kaneshiro sits tied for first as an individual with a round one score of 68.

Round One Recap:
The Rams opened this year's Mountain West Championship with a strong first round, ending the 18 holes tied for first with #51 nationally ranked San Jose State. Colorado State ranked first this round in two team stats; the Rams had the best par-4 performance with an average of 4.00 (E), as well as highest total birdies with 14.


Kara Kaneshiro was the frontrunner of the round for the Rams, boasting a four-under card and a tie for first individually. Kaneshiro shot six birdies during her first 18 holes, three on both the front and back nine.

Jacinda Lee earned a first-day finish tied for 12th, playing consistently with two birdies and three bogeys to land her a one-over card for the round. Chiara Sola and Ebba Thalen both ended the round tied for 20th playing three-over-par, Sola shooting two birdies on the front nine and Thalen shooting two on the back nine. Inje Natchanun rounded out the team for day one, shooting five-over and notching 8 pars on the front nine.

Round Two Recap:
With only one round to go, the Rams ended their second day in sixth place in the 10-team field, playing 14-over for a total team score of 593 thus far. After two rounds, Colorado State is ranked 2nd for team par-4 performance with an average score of 4.15, and are tied for third with UNLV for total birdies with 23.

Kaneshiro once again led the Rams for round two, landing in third place after playing one-over to move her total score to three-under. Kaneshiro now leads all tournament players in birdies with a total of nine. 

Still following Kaneshiro is Lee, now placed in 21st after a four-over round moved her total to five-over-par. Lee shot two birdies and two bogeys in her back nine, keeping her even to par for holes 10-18. Natchanun moved up to 30th after playing three-over for a new total of eight-over, with three birdies throughout the 18 holes. 

Thalen shot six-over this round, moving her total to nine-over and putting her in 35th individually, shooting 12 pars throughout the 18 holes. Following Thalen was Sola, who is now in 38th place after shooting seven-over to land her current total at 10-over with ten pars this round.

Round 3 Recap:
The Rams finished out the Mountain West Championship Thursday afternoon, finishing in sixth with a total team score of 891 (291-302-298).

Three Rams finished in the top 30 individuals, with Kaneshiro taking third place, Lee placing 20th and Sola placing 28th. With her third place finish, Kaneshiro led the Rams in the championship, playing even-par with a total of 216 strokes. 

Kaneshiro landed herself the even finish in the third round playing three-over with a birdie on hole 11. Lee also had a three-over finish for her third round, moving her up to 20th with a final score of eight-over-par. 

Sola played her low round of the tournament on Thursday with a one-over card, moving her up to 28th and a final score of 11-over. Sola played a strong back nine on her last round as a Ram, notching one birdie and eight pars. Close behind Sola was Thalen, playing three-over in the third round for a total of 12-over and a 33rd finish. 

Rounding out the Rams was Natchanun, finishing in 36th after a seven-over third-round brought her total to 15-over-par. Natchanun led the Rams in birdies for round three with three over the 18 holes.
