Rams Post 1-1 Mark in Claremont Tournament

Claremont, Calif. - The Colorado State water polo team went 1-1 in the first day of the Claremont Colleges Tournament Saturday in Claremont, Calif. The Rams fell to Pomona-Pitzer 11-9 before defeating Whittier 7-1.
In the first game of the day, the Rams suffered an 11-9 setback against the No. 1 team in NCAA II, Pomona-Pitzer. Four Rams had a pair of goals including Shari Worack, Emily Chambers, Laurien White and Monica Schuh. Emily McCullough added one goal for CSU. Annie Quinn was held scoreless in the game ending her scoring streak at 17 consecutive games.
In the nightcap, CSU goalkeeper Holly Stanfill allowed only one goal as White, Chambers and Quinn all had two goals and Schuh added one in a 7-1 victory over Whittier, a team that is ranked third in NCAA II. Quinn also had three assists while McCullough had two.
"Against Whittier we played our game", commented head coach John Mattos. "It was the type of game we are capable of playing. We were solid start to finish."
CSU (13-11) finished play in the Claremont Colleges Tournament Sunday with games against Redlands and Macalester.
