The Colorado State water polo team (14-12) will meet four challenging opponents when they take to the pool in the Loyola Marymount Invitational this Friday and Saturday in Los Angeles. The Rams meet Sonoma State (11-4) for the second time this season while facing No. 7 San Diego State (12-5) for the first time ever on Friday. On Saturday, CSU meets Chapman (10-7) and No. 4 Loyola Marymount (10-3) to round out play in the tournament.
Rams Finish Claremont Tournament 2-2
Colorado State earned a 2-2 record in the Claremont Colleges Tournament last weekend in Claremont, Calif. Four Rams had two goals each in their tournament-opening 11-9 loss to Pomona-Pitzer before Holly Stanfill allowed just one goal in their 7-1 win over Whittier. Redlands overcame three Laruien White goals on Sunday to down CSU 8-4 but the Rams closed out the event with a 7-4 win over Macalester with the help of three Marissa Edwards goals.
Quinn, Stanfill Rank Fourth in the Nation
CSU sophomore Annie Quinn ranks fourth in the nation in scoring with 55 goals on the year. Quinn is just six goals shy of national leader Bronwen Knox of Hartwick College who has recorded 61. Senior Laurien White also ranks in the top 20 with 43 goals on the year placing her 13th in the nation. Ram senior goalie Holly Stanfill is fourth in the nation in saves knocking away 151 shots this year. Cal Baptist's Kasey Weaver leads the nation with 203.
Quinn's Scoring Streak Comes to End
CSU's Annie Quinn concluded a 17-game scoring streak when she failed to find the back of the net in CSU's loss to Pomona-Pitzer on March 18. She began the streak on Feb. 18 against Cal State East Bay and has scored in 22 of CSU's 26 matches this season.
