Colorado State senior Matt McKinney was named Mountain West Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for McKinney.
McKinney, from Refugio, Texas, set a career-best mark in the shot put and a season-best mark in the discus throw at the Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz., last week. On Friday, he finished third overall (second among collegians) with a season-high toss of 184-4.00" (56.20m) in the discus throw, moving him into seventh on the all-time CSU school charts. McKinney's regional-qualifying mark in the discus is the third best in the conference this season and is currently 21st in the nation.
On Saturday, he threw a career-best and regional-qualifying mark of 58'-10.75" (17.95m) in the shot put to finish fifth overall and third among collegians. His throw in the shot put is the second best in CSU history, second in the conference this season and the 27th best mark in the nation.
