In the final home meet of the season, the Colorado State track & field teams both won team titles at the Jack Christiansen Invitational with the men scoring 179.5 points and the women scoring 211.
Junior Katie Lloyd won the high jump, qualifying for the NCAA regionals with a clearance of 5-8.75, qualifying for her third event of the season, as she has also surpassed the mark in the long jump and the heptathlon. She led a 1-2-3-4 sweep for the Rams in the high jump as junior Rae Backes also cleared 5-8.75 for second, and sophomore Anne McLaughlin and sophomore Tonya Cure both cleared 5-7 for third and fourth, respectively. Senior Amanda Huddleston-Miller won the triple jump with a season-best and NCAA regional qualifying jump of 40-11.25.
Junior Justin Hazzard ran a 13.81 in the 110 meter hurdles, while senior Mike Horton ran a 14.06, but the wind was over the allowable amount for qualifying purposes. Sophomore Drew Morano regionally qualified in the 400 meters finishing second overall with a time of 46.96 and senior Paul Michel regionally qualified in his first 1500 race of the season with a time of 3:49.31. Senior Matt McKinney threw a personal best 59-6.25 to win the shot put and improve his standing among regional qualifiers, while juniors Nate Heyrman and Trey Eder were second and third, respectively, also surpassing the regional qualifying standard. McKinney also was second overall and the top collegian in the discus, while Heyrman was second overall and the top collegian in the hammer and Eder was third overall with an NCAA provisional and season-best throw of 187-0.
The Rams swept the top three spots in the 1500 meters with freshman Kristen Hemphill winning in 4:42.09, sophomore April Thomas in second and freshman Heather Loseke finishing third. Junior Megan Fox placed second in the 400 meters, while freshmen Erin Weber and Ashlee Velez were third and fourth in the steeplechase, respectively. Freshman Danielle Rawlings also placed third in the 5000 meters.
Senior Josh Glaab, competing in his first race of the year, won the 5000 meters with a time of 15:26.10, while sophomore Andres Urbina was second in the steeplechase with a time of 9:50.75. Senior Dylan Spitzer crossed the tape second in the 400 hurdles at 53.19, while freshman Steven Swartz finished behind Michel in the 1500 at 3:54.89. The men's 4x100 meter relay was also victorious, running a season-best 41.19.
Seniors Katie Hansen and Jill McCormick again took the top two spots in the discus, while senior Jaimee Troth and McCormick were third and fourth in the shot put and sophomore Stacey Poulos, Troth and junior Haley Hunt were third through fifth, respectively in the hammer throw. Sophomore Emily Pearson threw a season best 139-5 to place second in the javelin and Lloyd was fourth, while sophomore Ashleigh Morton finished second in the pole vault.
Colorado State will split squads next week with the majority of the team heading to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Invitational. A few Rams will head east to the prestigious Drake Relays and several others will head to California for the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Stanford.
