Rams Play in Mountain West Conference Championships The Colorado State women's tennis team travels to San Diego, Calif., this week for the Mountain West Conference Championships.

In the first round on Thursday, CSU faces No. 28 BYU. The Cougars beat the Rams in a 7-0 match earlier this season. In that match, CSU's Anne Andersen and Emily Kirchem defeated BYU's No. 60 ranked pair of Sofia Holden and Dolly Chang and went three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. BYU, who is seeded No. 2 in the championships, is 6-2 in conference play and 18-6 overall. No. 28 Olga Boulytcheva, who is 31-10, in singles and, Holden and Chang in doubles, lead the Cougars. The match will be played at 10:00 a.m. PT on Thursday. If the Rams win on Thursday, they will play the winner of the UNLV/ Utah match on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

UNLV, the third seed in the championships, is 13-6 on the season and 6-2 in the conference. The No. 45 Rebels defeated the Rams 6-1 this season. Jessica Jones was the only Ram to win a singles match, at No. 5, and Andersen and Kirchem won at No. 1 doubles. UNLV is led by No. 10 Elena Gantcheva in singles play, who has a 32-8 overall singles record, and Sharon Marin and Gantcheva in doubles play.

Utah, the sixth seed, face the Rebels on Thursday. The Utes are 3-5 in the conference and 11-9 overall. The Rams fell 4-2 when they played Utah earlier this season in Colorado Springs. Andersen and Lauren Strasburger both scored points against the Utes, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Andersen and Kirchem defeated Cinthia Saucedo and Liz Ferris, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles and Jessica Jones and Jasmin Singh lost 9-8 (2) at No. 3 doubles. No. 98 Liz Ferris leads the Utes in singles and doubles play with a 14-12 singles record and a 9-13 doubles record with Saucedo.

Last year at the championships, the Rams won the consolation bracket by defeating Wyoming 4-0. UNLV defeated the Rams 5-0 in the opening round.
