San Diego, Calif.-- The Mountain West Conference announced the women's tennis All- Conference Awards. Anne Andersen was named as a singles player and also with Emily Kirchem as a doubles team. This is the first time in Colorado State women's tennis history that a doubles team has been named All-Conference and Kirchem's third time named All-Conference.
Andersen and Kirchem went 6-2 this season at No. 1 doubles against Mountain West opponents and 21-10 overall. The pair defeated the No. 2 nationally ranked pair of Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek of New Mexico, 8-7 (5) and Sofia Holden and Dolly Chang of BYU, 8-6. They lost to Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen of San Diego State and Ana Cetnik and Helena Besovic of TCU. Both of those doubles teams were also All-Conference. This season they broke the record of wins as a doubles pair in a season.
Andersen was named to the All-Conference team for the first time in her career by going 5-3 in Mountain West play and 20-13 overall. She defeated No. 34 Maja Kovacek, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles earlier this season. Andersen lost to No. 35 Helena Besovic, 6-4, 6-0, of TCU. Both Kovacek and Besovik were All-Conference singles players.
The Rams begin Mountain West Championships play on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. PT in San Diego, Calif., when they face No. BYU.
