Women's Tennis Season Ended by BYU

The Colorado State women's tennis team lost to BYU, 4-0, today at the Mountain West Conference Championships. The Rams finished the season 10-13 overall and 2-7 in Mountain West play.
Colorado State began the day unsuccessful in doubles play. Anne Andersen and Emily Kirchem lost at No. 1 doubles to Anastasia Sourkova and Jennifer Miccoli, 8-3. Lauren Strasburger and Carla Pallares were defeated by Holden and Dolly Chang at No. 2, 8-2. Jasmin Singh and Jessica Jones fell to Olga Boulycheva and Lauren Jones at No. 3, 8-1.
In singles play, when the match was finished, Kirchem was the only Ram to win a set. She was beating Lauren Jones 6-2, 4-3, but did not finish the match because of Mountain West Championship rules to end the matches when a team scores four points. Andersen suffered her first 6-0, 6-0 loss of the season at No. 2 singles to Sourkova. Strasburger lost at No. 3 to Sofia Holden, 6-2, 6-0. Jones lost to Miccoli at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Carla Pallares and Jasmin Singh did not finish their matches.
"One thing I have always been proud of is that they (our team) fight until the end," said Coach Jon Messick.
"In the tournament it is tough when they end at four, it could have been 4-3 easily."
"It was outstanding for Anne and Emily to get All-Conference; we've never had anything close to that. Their doubles was excellent all year. It was great for Anne to get a singles honor with a 5-3 record at No. 2."
This ends Colorado State's season of team play. The Rams will return six players from this year's squad for next season.
