The Colorado State University track & field teams saw several members compete at the prestigious Drake Relays, while the remainder of the team was in Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Invitational.

On Friday evening, a trio of Rams, junior Justin Hazzard, senior Mike Horton and freshman Rashaun Greer competed in the 110 meter hurdles, with Hazzard clocking a 14.59, Horton a 14.60 and Greer a 14.99. Then this morning, the trio, along with junior Kevin Johnson ran a 60.08 in the preliminaries of the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay to qualify for finals, where they ran a 57.88 to finish second overall.

At the Don Kirby Invitational, junior Drew Morano was victorious in the 100 meters, running a 10.87 in his first 100 of the season. He also won the 200 meters with a time of 21.56. Freshman Steven Swartz won the 800 meters in 1:54.79 while the men's 4x100 meter relay team finished second in 41.67. Freshman Jeff Wahl was third in the 1500 meters in 3:57.48 and senior Dylan Spitzer placed second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.93. Sophomore Andres Urbina finished second in the steeplechase, running a 9:37.59

Junior Danielle Korb and freshman Heather Loseke swept the top two spots of the 800 meters, with Korb winning in 2:13.14 - a season best time for her. Freshmen Kristen Hemphill and Ashlee Velez also swept the top two places in the steeplechase, with Hemphill running an altitude adjusted time of 10:53.69, just three seconds off the NCAA regional qualifying time. Freshman Alison Taylor finished third in the 1500 meters and was the second collegian, clocking in at 4:50.46. Sophomore Emily Pearson finished third in the 200 meters, running a personal best time of 25.06, which is the 15th fastest time in CSU history. She then finished second in the javelin with a throw of 137-1.

Juniors Nate Heyrman and Trey Eder and sophomore Jason Schutz placed second through fourth and first through third among collegians, respectively in the hammer. Heyrman threw a season-best 191-9, while Schutz threw a personal-best 178-0. Heyrman also won the shot put, while Eder was second. Schutz then finished second overall and was the top collegian - again finishing behind former Ram standout and Olympian Casey Malone - throwing 186-11, while senior Jason Fearheiley surpassed the regional qualifying mark with this third place throw of 170-9. Freshman David Eischeid finished second in the long jump with a leap of 22-8.5, while sophomore Jason Smith - fresh off spring football practice - finished second in the triple jump in his first competition of the year with the best jump of the season for a CSU athlete at 47-8.

Junior Haley Hunt and sophomore Stacey Poulos took the top two places in the hammer throw, with Hunt throwing a season-best 187-3 to defeat Poulos by three centimeters (one inch). Junior Rae Backes again won the high jump, hitting the regional qualifying mark of 5-8.75 for the second straight week. The Rams again dominated the discus throw, with senior Katie Hansen winning with a throw of 177-7. Hunt finished second with a season-best throw of 148-4 and senior Jill McCormick was third. In the long jump, junior Katie Lloyd continued to perform well, finishing second with a jump of 19-3.2 and senior Amanda Huddleston-Miller finished second in the triple jump at 39-11.25.

Seniors Paul Michel and Josh Glaab will compete late Sunday evening at the Cardinal Invitational at Stanford. Glaab is not scheduled to begin his 10,000 meter race until 10:24 p.m. Pacific time.
