Pair of Nationally Ranked Foes Down CSU Water Polo

Davis, Calif. - The Colorado State water polo team was upended by a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in the first day of the UC Davis Shootout. No. 15 UC Davis defeated the Rams 13-2 before No. 16 Indiana downed CSU 10-1.
Against the host Aggies, CSU scored one goal in the first and another in the fourth in the 13-2 loss. Annie Quinn and Kristen Buttke each scored for the Rams while Holly Stanfill had four saves and Andrea Lugo added one for the Rams in the loss. UC Davis' Ashley Greenwood had four goals to lead the Aggies.
In the Rams' second game of the day, No. 16 Indiana scored 10 unanswered goals in the first three periods before CSU's Quinn could find the back of the net in Colorado State's 10-1 loss to the Hoosiers. Stanfill had 11 saves in net for the Rams in the game. Indiana's Melissa Soria had three goals to lead her team in the win.
CSU (14-18) will try to snap a school-record tying six-game losing streak on Sunday when they face UC Santa Cruz and No. 14 UC San Diego in the final day of the UC Davis Shootout.
