Rams in 11th after Day One of Thunderbird Invitational

Phoenix, Ariz.-The Rams are in eleventh place after day one of the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Arizona State University. The Rams carded 283-297=580 after two rounds of the tournament which puts them in eleventh place at the par-71, 7017 yard Kartsen Golf Course.
Senior Kevin McAlpine withdrew in the second round of the tournament after carding a 73 in the first round. The four Ram golfers competing are all within two strokes of each other. Aaron Weston is leading the way for the Rams with a two-round 144 total. Weston carded rounds of 70-74 to put him a tie for 37th place. Nate Pettitt has a 145 total which has in a tie for 44th. Derrick Whiting and Zen Brown are both tied at 50th with a 146 total. Brown carded rounds of 74-72 and Whiting carded rounds of 70-74.
Three different Rams carded a sub-par round on the first day of the tournament. Weston, Pettitt and Whiting all carded a minus-one 70 in the first round.
Fellow Mountain West competitors San Diego State and UNLV are in first place of the tournament after posting a 549 two-round total. The Aztecs carded rounds of 277-272, and the Rebels carded rounds of 279-270.
Ben Kern is leading the individual field with a 134 two-round total after shooting rounds of 69, and carding a minus-six 65 in the second rounds of the tournament.
The sixteen teams are set to complete the final round of the Thunderbird Invitational Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
