Fort Collins, Colo. - Colorado State University women's basketball head coach Jen Warden today announced Linda Lappe as the newest addition to her coaching staff.
Lappe joins the current staff of Heath Alexander and Randie Wirt, taking over duties from Shane Brown who accepted a position at his alma mater, Ohio Valley University, an NAIA school in Vienna, W.V., in April. In her new capacity with the Rams, Lappe's responsibilities will include honing the skills of the Rams backcourt and defense as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator for the staff.
"Besides fulfilling obvious responsibilities of guard play, defense and recruiting, what drew me to Linda is her will," said Warden of her new hire. "She has a will and work ethic that has resulted in success everywhere she has been, and we are extremely excited to welcome her to Colorado State."
Lappe spent three seasons at Drake University and helped guide the Bulldogs to 47-42 record, including WNIT berths in 2004 and 2006. In addition, Lappe assisted with the signing of one of the top recruiting classes in the country for Drake this spring.
Prior to coaching at Drake, Lappe played under Warden and alongside Wirt at the University of Colorado-Boulder, where she graduated in December of 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and completed her playing career in the Spring of 2003. While at CU, Lappe was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain. She averaged 8.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists while leading the Buffs to their second straight NCAA Sweet 16 appearance as a senior.
Lappe earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference accolades in 1999 and 2003 and was named to the 2002-03 Dallas Morning News All-Senior Team. Lappe earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors as a sophomore, junior and senior, and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2001.
"I'm extremely excited about being at Colorado State and working with Jen and her staff. CSU has a great tradition and that is something I definitely took into consideration," said Lappe. "We are extremely motivated to get the program back to where it is used to being, back to the top of the Mountain West Conference."
