La Jolla, Calif. - For the second straight year, the Colorado State women's water polo team has completed the Western Water Polo Association Tournament with a 2-1 record and a ninth-place finish. CSU downed UC Santa Cruz 6-1 on Sunday to earn the ninth spot this season.
CSU led over the Slugs 3-1 at the halftime break when goalie Holly Stanfill pitched a second half shutout to keep the Rams on top by a final score of 6-1.
Ram freshman Emily Chambers netted three goals to lead CSU while Annie Quinn, Laurien White and Marisa Fernandez all added one.
Following the tournament, won this year by UC Davis, sophomore Annie Quinn and senior Holly Stanfill were named honorable mention all-WWPA. Last year, Marisa Fernandez was CSU's only player to earn all-conference honors.
The Rams end their season with a 17-21 overall record and will say goodbye to three departing seniors in Stanfill, Fernandez and Lisa Pretz.
