Championship Bound: Colorado State and the rest of the Mountain West Conference heads to Provo, Utah for the 2006 MWC Outdoor Championship. This is the second time the meet has been held in Provo, as the first league championship in 2000 was contested on the BYU campus.

Defending The Title: Junior Katie Lloyd begins her defense of the heptathlon title on Wednesday morning in Provo. Lloyd won the crown last year in Fort Collins, scoring 5,141 points. She also won the pentathlon title at the indoor championship. Earlier this year, Lloyd broke the school record in the heptathlon, tallying 5,266 points at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.

Among The Elite: Several current Rams rank among the top five all-time on the Mountain West Championship Records. Sophomore Drew Morano ranks fifth in the 400 meters with his time of 46.91 from the 2004 championship. Senior Josh Glaab ranks fourth in the 10,000 meters and fifth in the 5,000 meters, both from the 204 championship, while fellow senior Mike Horton is fourth in the 110 meter hurdles from 2003. Junior Magnus Lohse also ranks fifth in the shot put from 2004. For the women, junior Rae Backes ranks third in the high jump from 2004, while senior Amanda Huddleston-Miller is third in the triple jump from last season and senior Katie Hansen is third in the discus from 2005.

Entering The Best: Five Rams enter the Mountain West Championships with the best mark in the league this year. Junior Justin Hazzard leads the league in the 110 meter hurdles, while Mike Horton is second. Magnus Lohse has the best shot put this year, while senior Matt McKinney and junior Nate Heyrman are sitting second and third and Heyrman leads the conference in the hammer. Katie Hansen ranks first in the discus, while the quartet of Rae Backes, Katie Lloyd, junior Anne McLaughlin and sophomore Tonya Cure hold the top four spots in the high jump.

Ram Fan Events To Watch: For the men, check out the shot put at 10:30 Saturday morning. The Rams have four of the top five in the conference, with all four being NCAA regional qualifiers. For the women, watch the heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday. Katie Lloyd is the defending champion and the Rams have four of the top nine marks posted in 2006.

Track & Field Fan Events To Watch: For the track & field enthusiasts, the Mountain West Conference has several events not to miss. The women's pole vault at 10:00 Saturday morning has nine regional qualifiers, while both the men's 100 meters and 1500 meters have eight regional qualifiers each.

Where The Points Are: Junior Trey Eder returns as the top-point getter from the 2005 championship, as he scored 17 in three events and earned all-conference honors in the shot put. Katie Lloyd is the top returner on the women's squad as she scored 19 last season and was all-conference in both the heptathlon and high jump. Other returners that scored eight or more points at the 2005 championship are: junior Denny Majerus (11), senior Jill McCormick (10), Katie Hansen (8), Amanda Huddleston-Miller (8) and senior Jaimee Troth (8).

Austin Bound: Colorado State has 19 athletes qualified in 27 events for the NCAA Regionals on May 26-27 in Austin, Texas.

Making Their Mark: A total of 26 student-athletes have put their names in the Colorado State record book this season and now rank among the top 10 in school history in their respective events. That list follows:

Made To Be Broken: A trio of school records have fallen in competition this season. Magnus Lohse broke his own record in the shot put, throwing 62-11.5 in the first meet of the season. Katie Lloyd broke the heptathlon record, tallying 5,266 points to break Cristina Gourdin's record of 5,251 from last year and the quartet of Mike Horton, freshman Rashaun Greer, Kevin Johnson and Justin Hazzard broke the school record in the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay. The Rams ran a 57.88, breaking the old record of 57.99 by Horton, Tom Waido, Hazzard and Brian Williams from April 26, 2003.

Dandy Dozen: According to trackwire.com, both Magnus Lohse and Rob Watson are listed among the top 12 athletes in the nation in their respective events. The Dandy Dozen is a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event. Lohse ranks sixth this week in the shot put, while Watson is 12th in the steeplechase.

Well-Rounded: Of the 19 individual events contested during the year, the Rams have at least one regional qualifier, male or female, in 14 events, with only the 100, 5000 and 10,000 meters, pole vault and javelin not having a CSU athlete qualified.

Honored: Katie Hansen, Matt McKinney and Magnus Lohse have all been named Mountain West athlete of the week this season.
