Kristen Alford Wins Post-Graduate Scholarship

The Officers of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) have selected the 2005-06 recipients of the NACMA Postgraduate Scholarship Awards.

The winners will each receive a $1,500 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies. Students were required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be planning to pursue a graduate degree in athletics administration with the intention of pursuing a career in sports marketing.

This year's awards winners are Kristen Alford, Colorado State University, Division I; Navreet Gill, Ferris State University, Division II; Emily Hawkins, Iowa State University, Division I; Julie May, University of Kansas, Division I; and Bryan Miller, University of Georgia, Division I.

NACMA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities, enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics, and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators.

NACMA is administered by NACDA, now in its 41st year, is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. More than 2,000 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention. Additionally, NACDA administers nine professional associations for the separate business units that report directly to the athletics director.

Kristen Alford, Colorado State University, Division I
Graduating from Colorado State University with a 3.69 GPA, Kristen Alford earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in marketing and a minor in Spanish. At CSU, Alford assisted with ticket sales for the Women's National Invitation Basketball Tournament in 2003 and for the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds in 2004. That same year, she oversaw all aspects of on-field activities during football games, including game-day staff, sponsorship promotions, presentations and half-time entertainment. In 2005, Alford was responsible for planning and executing the Ram Club Mapelli Memorial Fox Acres Golf Tournament and the Ram Club Volunteer Appreciation Banquet. She was also active in coordinating activities with the coaches and corporate sponsors for the community outreach program, `Ram Jam," in 2004 and 2005. Alford received CSU's Academic Achievement Scholarship for outstanding academic performance. She was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Sigma Theta National Honors Society and Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity. For the latter, she was the events coordinator for the pledge class and brotherhood chair in the spring of 2006. After graduation, she plans on working for two years in college athletics to gain experience to get into a top tier MBA program where she plans on pursuing an MBA in sports management.
