Colorado State University men's basketball coach Dale Layer today announced the team's 2006-07 schedule that includes home nonconference games with Kansas State, Boise State and Northern Colorado, a road game at Colorado, and the Preseason NIT.
"It is a very challenging schedule," said Layer. "It is a schedule that we know will provide a competitive opportunity for our team to grow and get ready for the Mountain West Conference schedule."
Kansas State is coached by Bob Huggins, in his first season after a successful stint at Cincinnati. Boise State and Colorado State will play twice in 2006-07, including Nov. 20 in Fort Collins and again later in the season in Boise. Instate rival Northern Colorado visits Fort Collins Dec. 6.
Also on the schedule is CSU's second-ever appearance in the Preseason NIT. This year's tournament features four first-round sites and 16 total teams. The Rams face Baylor Nov. 14 in the first round in Spokane, Wash., with Gonzaga and Rice facing one another in the other first-round game. Winners and losers face each other the following day. The team that wins twice advances to the semifinals in New York, Dec. 22 and 24.
Colorado State will open conference play at home against Air Force Jan. 3. The Falcons lost to Illinois in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
