The Colorado State women's tennis team this week will compete in its final tournament of the fall season, the ITA Central Region Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
The Rams will be represented by senior Hilary Tyler and junior Lauren Strasburger who will face competition in the main singles draw as well as the main doubles draw. Thus far, both players hold winning records in singles. At 6-5, Tyler has advanced as far as the semifinals at the CU Invite in September and the finals at the Air Force Invite last weekend. Strasburger, who holds a 6-4 record, entertained appearances in one semifinal round and two finals rounds in as many tournaments this fall. In doubles, the tandem has played together in three tournaments this season, the CU, BYU and Air Force invites, compiling a 2-4 record overall.
"This is the end of the fall season for us," Head Coach Jon Messick said. "It will be a good test to see how our fall has gone and see how we stack up in the region."
The tournament begins tomorrow with qualifying. However Tyler and Strasburger will begin play Thursday with the maindraw, which begins at 7:30 a.m. MST.
At last year's tournament, the Rams advanced as far as the quarterfinals in both the main singles draw and the back singles draw. Tyler finished the tournament with a 3-2 singles record, advancing to the quarterfi nals of the backdraw, while Strasburger earned a 1-1 record. In doubles, Tyler and Strasburger earned a combined 2-2 record at the ITA championships last season, playing alongside former teammate Emily Kirchem and current athlete Laura Neal, respectively.
